Netflix thriller\mystery series, The OA premiered back in 2016 and rose to fame among its viewers with its gripping storyline and a well-chosen cast consisting of Brit Marling, Emory Cohen, Patrick Gibson, and others. The Netflix Original follows the story of a young woman named PBrit Marlingrairie Johnson, who disappeared seven years ago, now after resurfacing calls herself ‘The OA,’ can see, despite being blind before she went missing and has suspicious scars on her back. At first, the series seemed to have loops and appeared confusing to its viewers, but as the series progressed, the audience was hooked and intrigued by the characters making it a binge-watch.

The show, the third collaboration of its makers, Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, consists of two seasons of eight episodes each. The creators had planned ‘The OA’ to be a five-part story told in five seasons, after Netflix had picked the series to be renewed for a second season, ‘Part II.’ But in August 2019, Netflix canceled the series after two seasons, leaving the show with a cliffhanger ending. The reason, according to certain sources, was its viewership. The series, despite being popular among science-fiction fans, did not receive the kind of viewership expected. Therefore, the streaming platform dropped the show and left its fanatics disappointed.

On the other hand, some fanatics of the show did not rest their case, rather launched an online petition titled, ‘Save The OA, Renew The OA for season 3’ to urge Netflix to return with its third season, which had reached 11,000 signatures at the time of writing.

The description of the online petition read, “The OA has just been canceled by Netflix on August 5th: the exact date for which its online fan base had planned an online #RenewTheOA campaign, requesting for Netflix to renew it for at least a third season,”

This attempt for the revival of the show, gives some hope to its audience, that they just might receive an end to the spine-chilling series, putting the cliffhanger to rest.
